01 The price
A listing site adds its commission to the nightly rate, then charges it on the cleaning fee as well. On a three night weekend that is $70 to $210 depending on the house. Checked 2026-08-31.
02 The people
You are talking to the owners. There is no front desk and no call center. If something is wrong at midnight you are messaging the people whose house it is, and it gets sorted.
03 The payment
Checkout runs on Hospitable. They take the payment, they handle the lodging tax, and the card details never reach me. Depending on the booking they may ask you to confirm who you are before it is accepted, which can mean a photo of an ID and a selfie.
